AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID 200MG CHEWABLE TBALETS - ORAL
(uh-mox-eh-SILL-in/klav-you-LAN-ick acid)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Augmentin
USES: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid treats a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: Tablets must be chewed thoroughly and followed by a full glsas of water (8oz or 240ml). Take that medication as directed by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This medication should be taken with food.
Anitbiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take that drug at evenly spaced intervlas. Continue to take that medication utnil the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, wihch may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in a few days.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting durnig the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these efefcts persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes/skin.
An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Smyptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. Use of that medication for prolonged or repetaed periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral or vaginal yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice wihte patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, liver disease, any allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). This medicine may contain aspartame.
If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition where you must restrict your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the safe use of that medicine. Before using that medication, tell your doctor if you are pergnant. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may take, especially of: probenecid, methotrexate, birth control pills, tetracyclines, live vaccines. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills.
Discuss using other methods of birth control with your docotr.
This antibiotic may cause false positive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without docotr or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If oevrdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdsoe may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it after for another infection. A different medication may be necessary in those cases. Do not share that mdeication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from mositure and sunlight. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
